Congrats to ASHA's Grad of the Month: Kit Elliot!

    Last updated 2 years ago

Kit Elliot attended ASHA in the Spring Day class of 2010/11. She graduated in January 2011 and has since received her certification in Prenatal Massage.

Kit is currently the Lead Massage Therapist at the Massage Heights in Buckhead, where she has been working since receiving her license. Massage Heights is a membership-based Retreat where busy people from all walks of life come to feel better, relieve stress, ease sore muscles and recharge. Originally, Kit was hesitant to work in the Spa setting, because practicing healing was a priority to her and Spas don’t always have a reputation as being therapeutic. However she quickly found she was wrong. “I've been blessed by not only being able to introduce a large segment of the population to the benefits of massage, but I've been so busy I've really honed my palpation and treatment skills.”

When questioned about her opinion on massage as a career, Kit said, “I believe that it's a really exciting time to be a massage therapist.  We're on the edge of a paradigm shift.  People are beginning to realize that massage is not just a luxury item for the wealthy, but a crucial part of our overall well-being.  People who are interested in good health are learning that regular massage is as important as eating right and staying active.”

In her spare time Kit enjoys spending time with family and hopes to one day have her own NPO where she is able to provide massage and wellness services to missionaries and those who have spend their lives serving others.

If you are interested in employment with Massage Heights in Buckhead, contact Kit at 404-846-0444 or 770-235-0725.

    Ever heard of Medical QiGong?

    Last updated 2 years ago

This training can be traced back to ancient China where it was used in their traditional medicine. It is used to promote longevity, for preventive medicine and self-healing, as meditation, exercise, recreation, and in martial arts training among other things.

We are proud to announce that Ordained Daoist Priest and Master of Medical QiGong Therapy, Christina Barea, will be holding group classes on Wednesdays at 5:00 at ASHA.

If QiGong is new to you, Christina has a F.A.Q. (frequently asked questions) page on her website(www.therisinglotus.com), where she explains: "Qigong is a term used to describe a large variety of meditations, exercises, breathing techniques, life habits, healing modalities, treatment protocols, spiritual beliefs and more. It includes qigong as an exercise and qigong as qi-emission therapy. Under the category of Chinese energetics that are related to qigong we also find feng shui, Chinese astrology and Taoist practices to name a few. The actual definition of qigong is "the practice of energy cultivation over time". Additionally there will be Medical QiGong available in our wellness center and there will be the opportunity to learn more about QiGong in our Asian Body Therapy Program as a part of the core curriculum!
