Understanding the Princliples of Reiki as an Energy Modality

Last updated 1 year ago

Reiki is a powerful tool in alternative medicine that facilitates a patientâ??s own healing ability through the transfer of energy. It is an ancient healing practice that originated in Japan, and it is now becoming more common in American medicine and massage. How Does Reiki Work? Reiki is based on the belief of universal energy that promotes the bodyâ??s natural healing capabilities. This energy can be accessed by trained practitioners who use their hands to allow the energy to flow through various parts of a patientâ??s body. There are twelve basic hand positions used in a Reiki session, but they may be altered depending on the needs of each patient. The practitioner can feel the flow of energy into the body by a tingling or warmth in the hands. After a session, patients may feel relaxed, sleepy, or even energized. Clinical studies have shown boosted immunity and better circulation to be results of Reiki. Reiki Energy The word Reiki is composed of two Japanese words: rei-universal and ki-energy. This name represents the principles behind the practice. The hands are simply a medium for transferring this energy, which may be used on or near oneself or on others. Highly skilled Reiki practitioners can even give a session when the patient is at a distance because they are using non-physical energy believed to animate all living things. Therefore, this energy is all around no matter where you are. Although Reiki energy is not tangible in the traditional sense, it does yield positive effects in patients, including increased relaxation, stress reduction, and chronic pain relief.
